      <image:title>Cost Estimates - Background</image:title>
<image:caption>This cost estimate tool was designed to let users anticipate their bill for genetic testing before the order was placed, giving them the opportunity to cancel their test if it was too expensive. The outdated design and overgrown content were causing confusion and anxiety in patients, who would then reach out to their doctor. Too many patients calls would ultimately drive doctors to explore other genetic testing services. I uncovered major issues with the flow during a routine A/B test on email subject lines, and I began investigating the issues surrounding this product.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Cost Estimates - Process</image:title>
<image:caption>The first step of the project was fact-finding, including usability studies, provider insights, and an in-depth analytics pull. I mapped out the journey of the existing product, documenting what worked and what needed to change. Next, I compiled a roadmap for the product to grow over the next three years. The updates would begin with a complete redesign of the patient UI and associated content. Collaborating with a researcher, a writer, and a strategist, we built out personas, user flows, and content maps for the product. With content and hierarchy established, I developed low-fidelity wireframes for user testing. Once we incorporated insights from the users and internal sign-off, I upgraded the wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes. After another round of testing, the prototypes were ready for documentation and development.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Cost Estimates - Team and Tools</image:title>
<image:caption>As Sr. Designer for the product, I led the team of a UX researcher, a UX strategist, a UX writer, a visual designer, and a project manager. We reported out to the product manager for cost estimates. Partway through the project, we resourced a front-end developer to collaborate with the engineers for final implementation. Team collaboration was documented in Miro. Research was conducted in UserTesting. Interviews were recorded on Microsoft Teams. Prototypes were constructed in Figma.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Cost Estimates - Results</image:title>
<image:caption>The new designs performed well with usability participants. Although there was lingering anxiety about medical billing, users were reassured by the promise that the estimate would be honored and by the ability to download it. All users with a $0 estimate said it was clear and they felt no further action was necessary. All users presented with a choice of payment options said they understood the options and were empowered to make the decision. All users in scenarios that required Customer Service intervention said they would call at some point in their flow. Development will commence in Q4 2023.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Environmental Lights - The Process</image:title>
<image:caption>We began with an in-depth analysis at both the B2B and D2C sides of the business. Since those two types of customers had different needs and goals, we mapped funnels for both. With complete journeys for both personas, we mapped the information each customer would need, and then we created the site structure for it. I built out the wireframes from the site structure, then added interactions and basic coloring to test the blended light/dark background we designed. Once designs and annotations were handed to the dev team, I QA’d the navigation and each content block as they were coded.</image:caption>

      <image:title>MyGeneHistory - Process</image:title>
<image:caption>The project started with a discovery phase, where I interviewed providers to chart their process and gather their feedback on the existing PDF. I also met with the development team to gather the technical requirements for the new design. View discovery insights (PDF, 3.19MB) During the design phase, I audited all the content across different versions of the PDF report, including additions that needed to be made. I outlined the content in a hierarchy based on provider needs, which I entered into Figma as a wireframe. The final design steps were to apply color and branding for a comp and to get internal stakeholder feedback. Once the comp had been cleared internally, I showed the new design to providers to get their final thoughts. With a few tweaks, the new design was ready to pilot.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We started by building a thorough understanding of the users and their goals. Competitive analysis showed what other retailers had accomplished and where they fell short. We mapped user needs to different phases in the conversion funnel, then matched it to the site content needed to proceed to the next step. With a full map of information, we were able to create the site structure and convert it to usable information architecture (IA) and wireframes. With the wireframes approved, we went on to refine the interactions and visual design to create a complete prototype. After testing and refinements, we packaged the prototype with assets and annotations for the development team.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We led several discovery sessions to build a persona for the typical customer and gathered all internal stakeholder requirements. With the IA, we built out the site navigation and page structure for each template. I converted content structures to wireframes and prototyped the interactions. After the wireframes were handed off to the designer, I ran preliminary accessibility analysis to catch major issues before we presented them to the consultant. I worked with the developers to integrate the consultant’s feedback to achieve WCAG 2.0 compliance.
